I think the issue is that the director has to be able to make a judgement about the talent he hires and what she is capable of doing. Then I think a decent director should be capable of modifying the action if he can see things are going wrong. If we look at a stud notorious for rough behaviour, Tony T, I can remember scenes where he has moderated the rough stuff according to the girl. - for example in the Teen Room scene he cuts out slapping Tia Tanaka because it is distressing her.. I can't help but feel it should have been possible for Cristian to take some similar action here. But he doesn't and as you say it makes for a bad feeling at the end.
